No berthing or mooring procedure can be safely carried out unless the vessel has a trained mooring crew standing-by and for the pilot or ship’s master to have complete confidence in those mooring crews and boatmen. With this in mind, mooring crews and boatmen are trained to MCA standards with decades of experience. All boatmen receive full inductions at terminals prior to their first attendance on site and are accompanied by senior crew members at all mooring operations.
Safety Boat
Clifford Shipping Services (Thames) Ltd also supply safety boat services to some of the major refineries and terminals on the lower Thames reaches to assist in the maintenance of their jetties and river side maintenance. Supporting terminals and refineries by overseeing the safety of their workmen as they carry out their tasks. Our safety crew are fully trained in all emergency procedures.
PPE and River Safety
Clifford Shipping Services (Thames) Ltd's boatmen are in constant contact with the Port Of London VTS and vessels via VHF marine radio’s and are fully equipped with the latest flame retardant and anti-static PPE safety wear and equipment, which meet and exceed MCA Code of Practise for the Safety of Small Workboats & Pilot Boat’s.
We carry out extensive Risk Assessments and Method Statements for our mooring operations and services at all terminals and refineries, along with company Health & Safety documents. All safety procedures are adhered to during mooring and unmooring operations. Safety boat crews are regular retrained in safety produces. Safety of all boatmen and passengers is our priority.
Advice and Support
With Clifford Shipping Services (Thames) Ltd's 40 years experience of working on the Thames, Lower Thames, the river Medway and the Hoo Peninsular, we are always happy to advise and assist. We run a 24 hour service 365 days a year. Mr James Clifford sits on the Examination Committee for Apprentices at Watermans Hall due to his knowledge and experience of the areas.
Workshop
Clifford Shipping Services (Thames) Ltd have their own marine based workshop to carry out all maintenance and repairs to our boats. Regular monthly services checks are carried out by our qualified engineer and overseen by the Marine Repairs and Maintenance Department. All craft are licensed and adhere to the Port of London Authority (PLA) specifications.
